
A Collaboration Between NAMI and KAU
King Abdulaziz University and NAMI Sign MoU to Collaborate on Scientific Research, Training and Additive Manufacturing

King Abdulaziz University has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Innovation Industrial Company “NAMI,” a company owned by Dussur, global 3D printing company 3D Systems, and Saudi Energy, with the aim of exchanging expertise and knowledge and developing capabilities in the fields of scientific research, training, consultancy, reverse engineering, and additive manufacturing. The MoU was signed on 14th of September at Jeddah city.
Representing King Abdulaziz University at the signing was Prof. Dr. Alaa Attar, Dean of the Faculty of Engineering in Rabigh, while Eng. Mohammed bin Munther Swaidan, Chief Executive Officer of NAMI, represented NAMI.
The MoU covers collaboration in joint research and development in the fields of reverse engineering and additive manufacturing. It also includes the production of research prototypes, secondment of experts to review, discuss, and evaluate research, and the implementation of advanced research and development programs covering the exploration and enhancement of materials, including polymers, metals, and composites, as well as the development of innovative engineering designs, prototypes, and their testing.
The areas of collaboration under the MoU focus on developing and implementing qualification and certification programs for applications and products manufactured using reverse engineering and additive manufacturing technologies, ensuring compliance with local and international standards. The MoU also provides for training courses for university students, supervision and support of distinguished graduation projects, in addition to educational, training, and consultancy services and joint activities.
The MoU further includes organizing joint events and competitions focused on developing innovative solutions and products related to additive manufacturing, contributing to marketing and promotional activities, enabling both parties to benefit from the university’s laboratories to conduct selected tests, and participating in research projects supported by external entities and programs.
